Illness/COVID 19 Guidance

  • Illness/COVID-19 Guidance

As we enter into the 2022-2023 school year, GFPS would like to provide some of the following guidance for students and staff to help keep our schools healthy.
    • Continue to practice good hand hygiene.
    • Stay home when you are sick: If you have a fever, continuous vomiting, or demonstrate signs of a contagious/communicable disease, please stay home and notify your school/supervisor.

GFPS will be moving away from the “COVID-19 Illness Exclusion/Inclusion Protocol” used for the past two years and moving toward our traditional practices and following current protocols set by the GFPS Nursing Department.

    General COVID Guidance:

    • If you are demonstrating symptoms of COVID, testing is available and recommended.  Please contact a GFPS School Nurse during school hours to inquire about onsite testing.
    • If you test positive for COVID-19, isolation is still required as a public health safety and mitigation measure.  Isolation should last 5 whole days from your onset of symptoms or from your test date if you are asymptomatic.  IF after day 5 you have improving symptoms and have been fever free for over 24 hours then you are eligible to return to work on days 6-10 if you are able to wear a well fitting mask when around others.  (Masks are available through the nursing department).
    • If you have a known exposure, you can visit the CDC COVID Isolation/Quarantine Calculator tool for information to help guide you on making decisions regarding your health and safety.  A general rule of thumb is to monitor yourself for symptoms, wear a mask for 10 days after exposure, and receive COVID-19 testing at least 5 days after exposure or immediately if you start demonstrating symptoms.
