TWO MONDAYS!

 SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE
TWO MONDAYS!

Not counting today, there are TWO Mondays left in this school year! For me, this year has been a whirlwind! It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating the passage of the facility bond, attending holiday programs and commencing the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year! And now, we are a mere 17 days away from the end of the school year! A mere 13 days away from the first of three high school graduation ceremonies!
For me, this time of year is bittersweet. On one hand, there is the sweet satisfaction of checking another 180 days of amazing learning off the list; the satisfaction of knowing that we each made a difference for our kids, our community and our future. I cherish the many upcoming sweet moments as culminations and celebrations are held. Each assembly, concert and commencement puts a smile on my face.
Bitter though, as we say good-bye to students and staff. There is the taking down of bulletin boards and the storing away of learning materials. I find the look of empty classrooms to be a bit depressing. There is the end-of-year rush to get everything done as we already begin our planning for next year. I can see the stress on staff and student faces.
So how do we ensure the upcoming Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays matter? By a laser focus on our goals and the work required for them to be met. The Daily Motivator, Ralph Marston says, “Start strong, stay strong, and finish strong by always remembering why you are doing it in the first place.”
We started strong. As I said at Convocation in August, “This is going to be a historic year. While we’ll have to wait and see what will be written in the history books about this one, a lot of the outcomes are in our hands. The choices we make, the actions we take all make a difference and once again, the quality of our relationships will determine the quality of those outcomes.”
Over the last months, we have made history. We have made choices that demonstrated strength, compassion and commitment. We have developed lasting relationships that have led to good outcomes. There is no doubt that we will finish strong as we fill each bittersweet day that is left with the same vim and vigor we had back in September. Thanks for your energy and enthusiasm as we say goodbye to the historical 2016-2017 school year!

Take care. Be safe. Stay well.
