"Once you learn something, no one can take that from you."
As a reluctant learner, these words convinced me to try college classes.
I began my formal education by graduating high school and then college. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in elementary education. Throughout my 25 plus career, I have acquired a Special Education endorsement, a Literacy endorsement and a Masters Degree in curriculum development with a specialization in reading. The informal education I received from the "school of hard knocks" has been equally important. I survived college by working as many as 3 part-time jobs while attending school full time. Volunteering in various organizations has helped me gain additional knowledge in accepting non-traditional ways of working. The 24 years teaching grades k-12 in a class C public school gave me a strong foundation in education. In 2004, I joined the ABLE program in Great Falls as the literacy teacher. My education has given me many learning and employment opportunities as well as increased confidence in making choices. Since I did not experience much success as a student in my formative years, I strive to help students break down their learning barriers. I enjoy helping students find success by exploring new ways to learn.
