Whittier
History
Whittier is the District's oldest
schoolhouse. When the Great Falls Public School District was only two months
old, plans were begun for this schoolhouse. The land was donated by the Great
Falls Water Tower. The north side school, located at Eighth Street and Third
Avenue North, was officially named Whittier.
In 1892, two rooms were added to Whittier.
By 1907 the tower had been removed from the building
and a six room addition was built.
In 1938 major construction began. They raised Whittier
school and constructed a new schoolhouse on the original site. The new school
was built by John Sletten, and completed by September of 1939.
