EAST MIDDLE
SCHOOL, SCHOOL
WIDE DISCIPLINE PLAN
At East Middle
School we affirm our teacher’s right and responsibility to develop
classrooms
of respect and citizenship that are conducive to learning.
<>We are also committed to our
parents being responsible partners
in developing the citizenship and education of their child. We are professionally committed to parents
being contacted early and often as behavioral issues arrive so that
parents may
assist in their child’s future and help improve the educational
environment for
others. <>
Lastly, we will repeatedly demonstrate a commitment for East
to be a safe place to learn. We believe
that each student deserves a safe and orderly school of which to belong. No student should fear for his safety or,
have his educational opportunities diminished by the misbehavior of
another
student. <>
We will use every means possible to modify misbehavior
through humane counseling methods before using negative reinforcement. We pre-teach all necessary social skills for
students to be successful at school and in life (for ex.
How to Follow Directions, How to Greet
Someone, How to Appropriately Give Feedback, etc.).
Our goal is to partnership with parents
in
order to help all students develop self-discipline in order to be
citizenship
ready for the world. <>
Our Five Main Rules:
1. By
the time the
tardy bell has finished ringing all students will be seated in
their desks and ready to learn.
2. Students
will
follow all directions.
3. Be
respectful
to everyone every day.
4. Keep
hands,
feet, and objects to yourself.
5. Be
polite.
<>Teachers may add procedures in
their classrooms but, the entire building will adhere to these five
very basic
rules everywhere in the building. <>
Consequences students earn when
they
demonstrate poor behavior:
Step
1: Students
are formally warned with their name on the board.
Step
2: Students
are warned to correct their behavior by check marks next to their name.
Step
3: On the
third mark, parents are
called and allowed to talk to their child in order to have
a
chance to help the student change his behavior.
Step
4: The
student is sent to the
Student Services Advocate for Behavioral Counseling.
At this step, a cognitive behavioral
planning
session will take place with our Student Services Advocate in order to
help the
student modify his behavior and replace them with more successful
behaviors. This
is generally scheduled during the
student’s lunch period. Parent
will be
included
in this step.
Step
5: 1 hour
and 15 minutes of detention will be issued. Parent
will be contacted.
Step
6: The
teacher will issue the student ISS. The
parent will be contacted.
Step
7: A Major
Action Report and all
evidentiary documentation will be submitted to the Associate Principal
and the
length of the Extended In School Suspension or Out of School suspension
will be
determined. One factor in the
determination
of Suspension will be the parent’s ability to partnership with the
school and
help make it a safe and orderly environment for others.
<>All student discipline is
tracked
through a computer program. Repeated
disruptions that in multiple settings will also result in teams placing
the
student at an appropriate Step in the discipline process.
Our halls are part of our school wide
discipline system and are actively monitored by both staff and cameras.
<>
Intolerable Behaviors will result
in an automatic referral to the Associate Principal:
Severe disruptions to learning,
fighting,
chemical abuse, issues of safety (i.e. hazing and bullying electronic
or
otherwise), theft, and vandalism. <>
Fighting will not be tolerated. Any
student who is fighting on the first
offense will receive 3 days of Out of School Suspension and 3 days In
School
Suspension with no exceptions. On the
second
occurrence it will result in long term Suspension.
If you hit a person you are fighting. If you don’t hit back, you are a victim and
won’t be punished. As part of our
commitment to have no violence at East, we also involve our School
resource
Officer (Police) in all fights. Additionally,
we offer formal Peer
Mediation as a safe and alternative
means to solve conflicts and disputes without violence.
Thanks
for your contribution and commitment as a
parent to making East a place where all students are cared for, safe,
and a
place where teachers can help your child learn daily.
