Guidelines for Ms. Hudspeth 7th/8th grade English Classes

Philosophy-

English Class should be a place where students have the right to develope their communication skills in a positive and safe environment. Each student is unique and important. Students, teachers and parents are partners in education and each one is integral in the educational experience.

STARTING CLASS

You must be in your seat when the bell rings.

Fill out your English assignment sheet and begin the Daily Language Skill Builders (formerly DOL), Daily Oral Analogies or ITBS strategies. Please sharpen pencils and get materials organized before the late bell rings.

TARDY

You will be given one warning and after that, a second late to class will result in a team consequence or student choice.

PAPER HEADINGS

GRADING

Each assignment, quiz, test or project is based on points. Tests, projects and essays are worth more than daily work. Your final grade will be based on the total number of points taken for a grade each term.

MAKEUP WORK

Assignments for the week are written on the assignment sheet clip board located on the podium. You are responsible for getting any missed work and/or tests. The Honework Hotline will have this same daily information. If you do not understand the assignment please arrange to see me during Home Base, or before and after school. You have only two days for each missed day to get work conpleted. I will not seek you for the missing assignments.

TURNING IN WORK

Hand all work in to me in the basket located in my classroom. Work must be properly headed in order to receive credit. No name papers will result in a zero.

LATE WORK

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. Occasionally students will have a free assignment pass which could be used on a late assignment. Tests, quizzes and projects are not eligible for free assignment passes.

IF YOU NEED MY ASSISTANCE

Raise your hand and quietly request my help. If you need assistance outside of class, set up a time to see me during Home Base of before/after school.

WEEKLY SPELLING

Each Monday a list of words will be given. Students will study these words and then have a test over the selected vocabulary/spelling words later in the week. Spelling practice will be assigned each week.

Evacuation Drills

Quietly and quickly leave the room after your teacher gives further instructions. Go down the hall toward the emergency exit. LISTEN to what your teacher tells you to do. NO TALKING OR HORSE PLAY! Attendance will be taken.

BONUS BOOK

You may earn extra credit points by bringing an SSR book to class. Extra credit will be given to all students who have a book in class on test day. Everyone should have a book in their binder at all times.
