Content:                        This course will include aspects of parenting. It will cover human reproduction, development of children from prenatal through school age, child care, and current issues related to parenting.

Content:                        This course is designed to cover growth and development patterns in physical, social, intellectual and emotional areas in children ages 2 to 8. The course consists of classroom discussion ana activities, written assignments and guest speakers. Students will observe various types of child care facilities within our community. Students will experience hands-on placement within these community facilities.

Content:                       Students will study food safety/sanitation, meal planning, nutrition and food preparation. Lab units may include, but not be limited: breads, nutrition, grains, protein foods, main dish meals, vegetables, fruits, and baked goods. There is a $15.00 lab fee.

Content:                       This is an advanced class featuring the professional world of culinary arts. Foreign foods will be integrated throughout the class. There will be an emphasis on the aesthetics of food presentation for restaurant and catered meals. Culinary careers will be examined as well as the plans for a mock food business. Students will develop their own cooking video, create original recipes, review restaurant meals and evaluate the skills of their peers. There is a $15.00 lab fee.

Content:                       The semester will include learning basic sewing techniques used to construct clothing and/or home furnishings. Students will learn how to operate sewing machines, sergers, and embroidery machines. Students will proceed at their own pace and ability level. Students will complete five projects for which they purchase all supplies. There is a $10.00 lab fee.

Content:                       Students will expand their knowledge of construction techniques. Greater emphasis will be placed on fitting, finishing, and more detailed patterns. Students will explore career opportunities in the fashion and textile industries. Project selection will be determined by the student with approval of the instructor. The lab fee is $10.00.
Students can expect to: - provide fabric and supplies for 5 sewing projects
                                    - recycle an existing clothing item
Students will learn to:    - sew advanced projects
                                    - sew on one or more special fabrics
                                    - expand knowledge of pattern fitting and clothing alterations
                                    - work with a variety of fabrics
                                    - expand skills in sewing preparations and fabric choices
                                    - use the serger and construct a garment on it
                                    - learn value of clothing repair

Content:                       Students will explore and apply the principles and elements of design, focusing their attention on design issues in the bedroom, the dorm room or studio room and finally, the first apartment. Students will analyze career paths in the housing, interiors and furnishings industry. They will explore computer-aided as well as hand make drafting designs, and use technology created for the interior design industry. Students will use sewing machines to create interior design projects. There will be a $15.00 lab and materials fee.
Students can expect to:    - take notes and tests

                                        - sew items used as interior design accessories

                                        - recycle a second hand interior item with new design elements
                                                such as a piece of furniture, a mirror, a lampshade

Prerequisites:               Job Seekers must be taken in advance or concurrently. Specific prerequisites related to job placement are required.
Content:                       This is a unique course offering academic credit for paid work experience. Work Experience has three components: work-based learning, and connecting activities. A training plan will be developed for each student. Students will meet as a class one period per week.
Students can expect to: - attend class one period per week
                                    - complete a minimum of 215 work hours on the job site each semester
                                    - submit a job manual and other projects, reports and activities
                                    - maintain passing grades in all currently enrolled classes
                                    - demonstrate an understanding of
                                            how business, organizational and technological systems work
Students will learn to:    - identify, plan, and allocate workplace resources of time and materials
                                    - develop a mature and responsible attitude in a real working environment
