Comprehend, analyze

Students will:

Deliver ideas and
information clearly, creatively, effectively
Students will:
· communicate professionally with both the school and local community
· actively seek, gather and evaluate a variety of sources to create a working portfolio
· produce accurate, balanced and fair journalism with awareness of a target audience
· capture the story through photographs and effective cutline/caption writing
Manage resources and
technology
Students will:
· establish safety measures in dealing with chemicals and darkroom equipment
· utilize photographic principles of lighting, composition, timing and styles
· use software to enhance, create designs and prepare photographs for layout
· use a variety of camera and lends types: 35mmSLR, digital, wide-angles, telephoto
· use advanced photographic techniques: dodging, burning, framing, use of filters
Communicate visually
Students will:
· demonstrate basic design principles: proper gaze motion, variety of horizontal and vertical shots, trapped action, bleeds, dominant photo/CVI, rule of thirds
· produce journalistic rather than artistic photography: people+action=interest
· create photo essays which include establishing shorts, medium range shots and closeups using a variety of angles, lenses and distances in exploring a subject
· submit images and cutlines/captions for publication
compose a variety of styles with impact: portraits, action, human emotion, and reaction while covering news, feature, sports
